Welcome to Bruce Springsteen country! Fans of 'The Boss' will want to make a pilgrimage to Asbury Park, which can be thought of as Graceland for Springsteen lovers. Be sure to visit the Stone Pony, where Springsteen and Southside Johnny made their musical debuts. While New Jersey culture is often humorously displayed in film and on television, the Garden State boasts some wonderful summer beach locations. Take, for example, Cape May. This Victorian beach town is home to the Mid Atlantic Center for the Arts, and the Emlyn Physick Estate. You can explore this stunning Victorian mansion, and enjoy a traditional English tea time at the Twinings Tea Room, which is located on the premises. Enjoy an afternoon picnic at Cape May Point State Park, or go bird watching at the Cape May Migratory Bird Refuge. Cape May is also home to the docking point for the boat to Dewey Beach, Delaware. In October, greyhounds and their human companions visit Dewey for the Annual Greyhound Gathering. While waiting for the boat, they all hang out around Cape May. If you love dogs, it's a site to behold. Atlantic City offers a completely different type of experience. Less glitzy, but more down to earth than Vegas, this is Jersey's gambling capital. Even if you don't gamble, it's the ultimate people watching experience, and you can't beat those dirt cheap all-you-can-eat buffets. Fortunately, when you need an escape from the kitsch and the tacky, you can escape to a small Victorian hotel and old-fashioned hospitality in a classy environment. For a family vacation, consider North Wildwood, which is home to Morey's Peer Amusement Park. In addition to the regular rides, there is also a waterpark, which is a godsend during the hot weather. If your childhood memories of Jersey amusement parks date back to the now defunct Palisades Park, you will probably enjoy staying at a local inn which features a collection of 50's rock and roll memorabilia. Or if, you'd prefer, leave the kids at home and find accommodations at North Wildwood's charming bed and breakfasts.
