As you exit the Bozeman Airport, don't be surprised if a song runs through your head. Oh give me land lots of land under starry skies above...Montana is characterized by its wide-open spaces and breathtaking vistas. Surprisingly, even its urban areas have yet to be spoiled by over development. True, many people who visit decide to relocate, but this is still the authentic, true West. Of course, you can't talk about Montana's mountains without talking about skiing. Die hards love the noncommercial Bridger Bowl, which is famous for its steep terrain, as well as a ski school staff whose dedication to the sport borderlines on the religious. Lift tickets are significantly cheaper at Bridger Bowl, so why not treat yourself to a stay at an elegant mansion, lodge or bed and breakfast? If you are traveling with a groups of intermediate skiers and riders, Big Sky is just an hour's drive from Bozeman. However, the time you spend driving will be made up for in the time you do not spend waiting in lift lines. Even on a weekend afternoon, Big Sky lift lines are conspicuous by their absence. Experience the joy of wide open trails, with nobody else in sight. If you prefer to combine your skiing with some arts and culture, a trip to Whitefish is in order. This pedestrian-friendly town is home to a number of artists and musicians. The mountain itself has a great variety of summer activities, which include mountain biking, hiking and gondola rides. Additionally, you are only 30 minutes from the famous Glacier National Park, which boasts over 700 mountain lakes, 26 glaciers and 1,000 plant species. Bigfork and Kalispell are also within 31 miles of the park. These towns also offer the type of artistic ambiance that is typical of Whitefish. Missoula is home to the University of Montana. In recent years, it has become a hip and trendy place for relocation. It is popular with people who want to maintain a semi-urban lifestyle while having frequent opportunities to participate in outdoor activities.
