Description:
The Stuart Avenue Inn is a guest house and events center located in the prestigious Stuart Area Historic District of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Operating since 1983, The Inn is comprised of the Bartlett-Upjohn House, Carriage House and award-winning McDuffee Gardens. The buildings are splendid examples of architecture spanning the 1880's to the turn of the century. At the center of the Stuart Avenue Inn is the Bartlett-Upjohn House. Built in 1886 by newspaper publisher Edgar Bartlett, this building was purchased in 1907 by Dr. James T. Upjohn, a Michigan State Senator and the youngest of the four brothers who founded the Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company. This spectacular example of Eastlake Queen Anne Architecture is a true historic gem. The original carriage house still stands on the grounds of the Bartlett-Upjohn House and now contains guest rooms.
