Sundance Bear Lodge
Description:
Welcome to Mancos, Base Camp for touring the 4 Corners! Sundance Bear Lodge is a family oriented, pet friendly, country style Bed and Breakfast in southwest Colorado between Mesa Verde National Park (only 10 miles to the entrance), Durango (30 miles to the Durango - Silverton train) and Dolores (fishing on the Dolores river).
Match your family's vacation needs with three types of lodging accommodations in one location at our inn, each with a slightly different ambiance, all on 80 plus acres to hike and enjoy. How about 2 Bed & Breakfast rooms with baths in the main lodge; Romantic Log Cabin with loft (bed and breakfast option); and a 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath, fully equipped Guest House. Spend a relaxing evening on the porches enjoying the vistas -- Mesa Verde one way, the La Plata mountains the other. The sun dances each night are free, thanks to Mother Nature and the summer storm clouds.
You have arrived in 1300AD & the vanishing Anasazi culture - and in the Wild West of the American frontier with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. We even have stories about Butch Cassidy bank robberies and western author Louis L'Amour. Enjoy this step back in time, when life moved at a slower pace.
Mancos and Sundance Bear Lodge are your base to see and enjoy cliff dwellings along Trail of the Ancients, Durango, Cortez, Dolores along the San Juan Skyway. Plan your tours of the area --at least one day in Mesa Verde Nat'l Park understanding the history of these Ancestral Puebloans and the majesty of their cliff dwellings, a day to ride the Durango-Silverton train, maybe a jeep ride to visit ghost towns, or some hiking in the national forest nearby. Enjoy art galleries in Mancos and Durango. We'll be happy to help you plan your activities.
Return to Sundance Bear after full days of adventures, it is time for a nap in the hammock or a dip in the hot tub. Hot tub is on the lodge front porch, and a sauna is just a few steps. More adventures follow: hike the La Plata Mountains, fish the Dolores River, horseback ride in the National Forest. Enjoy our 80+ acres of pastures, trees and canyon with stream, four miles north of Mancos at about 7,000 ft. elevation. Guests are welcome to explore on foot or on their horse. The lodge great room is open to all guests for relaxation, reading, watching a movie.
